ANIBAL - 1917-10-16, 2006-04-23 (88 years old) (in portuguese and english)

A HERO STORY - UMA HISTÓRIA DE UM HERÓI.

O meu único avô ANIBAL que ainda estava vivo morreu hoje.
Pai do meu pai.
Lágrimas e muito nervoso estão-me a aparecer neste momento.
...
(Eu tinha dormido pouco, tinha-me deitado ás 2h15 e levantado ás 6h00).
Ele, o herói deitado, continuou a olhar para mim e falou-me no meu cabelo, estava curto.
...

My only grand-dad ANIBAL that was still alive died today.
Father of my father. Now I only have my 2 grand-moms.
Lived 88 years full of work.
Lived in Portugal and in Angola.
Worked in mines and built roads in Angola.
Had a great joy when mines and precious-stones appeard on talks.
Was a military figur, when he was new almost never gave freedom to his sons.
But he loved his son and daughter even without whowing.
...
Last Wednesday had an AVC that took him urgently to the Almada General Hospital.
Had another 2 AVCs already on the hospital.
Was operated twice on Friday and Saturday.
But operation to operation become worse.
Today Sunday only connected trough a machine without any reaction.
His machine was turned off with the autorization of the son-hero (my father, FERNANDO).
I'm trying to write, but is becoming very hard.
Tears and nervouseness are appearing right now.
...
My grand-dad gone.
I went to see him Friday morning after I pick up my father on the airport.
Just arrived with urgency from Florida, USA.
...
Friday morning, I went to see my grand-dad.
I woke him up from some resting minutes. He was connected to the machine of gas and with tubes in him.
I touch him twice on his shoulder to wake him.
He woke up, looked at me and smiled. I noticed on him a joy for seeing me.
I said I was there to see him and to talk to him.
He looked at me and told me that I was very tired, dark circles (under the eyes).
(I slept few hours, I had gone to bed on 2h15 and I woke up at 6h00).
He asked me if I was already on the States,
(he knew I wanted to go there, my father already told him a few minutes early).
He, the lie down hero, continued to look at me and talked about my hair, it was short.
I told him I had cut my hair a few days ago.
We changed a little more words that I don't remember well now.
I told him that my aunt (daughter MARGARIDA and sister of my father) was outside.
I gave him a sad goodbye.
And let him rest in peace.
...
It was my last minutes with the great ANIBAL SOUSA MARQUES (Eng.).
...
Thank you grand-dad for you to exist.
...
Thank you grand-mom CÉLIA for being the great woman you are and for being resisted all of your life.
...
Thank you aunt MARGARIDA for these last years to be always on the side of my grand-parents.
...
And thank you to my FATHER FERNANDO for being who you are.
...
A big VERY SPECIAL thank you to both my parents, TERESA (mother) and FERNANDO (father) for the education you gave me that made me be a very sensitive and very special boy.
...

Here I add 3 photos of my grand-dad Anibal. They are all here to make me remember of the hapiness and joy of him. I spent many of my years in his home near Sesimbra on holydays since I was a little lad. I will never forget all of those times. Where I break all the house-doors. Where I did many watering irrigation, to not only to the plants but to people and to everything I had in my front, hehe. Those were good times.

Now, let's wait for the future...
