Bono's daughter's a hit with Hanks & Spielberg

Eve Hewson
Eve Hewson

BONO’s daughter Eve Hewson is set to become a household name in America by starring alongside Tom Hanks in a new Steven Spielberg movie.

Our exclusive pictures show the Dubliner on the set of her new film St James Place.

And what is more than ironic about the flick is that it’s centred around the story of the U2 spy plane – after which her superstar father’s group is named.

Eve (23), was also pictured with her older sister Jordan and mum Ali at New York Fashion Week on Sunday at a showcase for Edun, the ethical clothing line Ali created with her husband Bono several years ago.

Among the writers of St James Place are Oscar winning film-makers Joel and Ethan Coen.

The movie is based on the 1960 U2 spy plane incident, the true story of James Donovan, a U.S. attorney who lost his reputation and was branded a communist after defending a Russian spy, only to be asked by the CIA to go behind the Berlin Wall and meet with the KGB to negotiate the release of downed pilot Gary Powers.

Most of the movie was shot in Brooklyn, New York, and Eve plays Tom Hanks’s daughter Jan Donovan, who ends up falling for a young law associate. Also starring in the movie are Amy Ryan – pictured with Tom and Eve – and former MASH star Alan Alda.

The film is due out in October.

Although Eve’s parents were against her becoming an actress, she made her debut in 2005 alongside her sister Jordan in the short film Lost and Found.

“I basically said to my dad that, look, I’m just as passionate about movies as you were about music, and when you were 18 you wouldn’t let anyone stop you so you’ve gotta let me do this,” she explained.

“He didn’t take no for an answer when he was 18, so I have that in my genes. I went to school and I studied it and I wanted to learn about it.”

Eve made her feature length debut in 2008 in The 27 Club.

The same year, she took part in an acting programme at the New York Film Academy.

Her first big break came when she was cast in the 2011 indie flick This Must Be the Place, in which she played the daughter of Sean Penn − who, interestingly enough, played an ageing rock star.

Her biggest role to date has been in critically acclaimed romantic comedy Enough Said. She played Tess, the vapid teenage daughter of the late Sopranos star James Gandolfini.

Eve is also well known to Irish fans of The Script as she appeared in their video For The First Time.

In July 2013, Jack Quaid of The Hunger Games and Eve asked fans to help them fund a new film called Roadies using crowdsourcing.

Eve currently lives in Brooklyn. She received her drama degree from New York University in May 2013 and can currently be seen alongside Clive Owen in the American TV medical series The Knick.

It is set in 1900 and tells of how doctors and nurses struggle to treat patients without modern medicine techniques.

Eve admits she understood her parents’ concerns about her future.

“I honestly don’t think they would have been good parents if they weren’t wary of me entering the entertainment industry,” she points out.

“They wanted to make sure I really knew what I was signing up for and that I was serious.

“They saw that I was being relentless, that I wasn’t stopping just because someone said no one time. I think they respected that I was committed to it.”

Eve also insists that a famous father didn’t help her secure any Hollywood roles.

“What’s great about Hollywood is that it is so cutthroat, and it really f**king doesn’t matter who you are.

“No director is going to sacrifice their film because they want someone’s famous kid in it for a headline.”

The Breakfast Club, 2015-02-18 - Nerdist, Celebrate 30 Years Of THE BREAKFAST CLUB With This Video Tribute To ’80s Teen Movies

Celebrate 30 Years Of THE BREAKFAST CLUB With This Video Tribute To ’80s Teen Movies

The 1980s were the Golden Age of teen movies, with perhaps none more cherished and beloved than John Hughes‘ masterpiece of teenage angst, The Breakfast Club, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this week. Aside from just being a great movie, The Breakfast Club solidified the group of young actors Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, and Molly Ringwald as the teen idols of the day, then forevermore known as “the Brat Pack.”

There were popular high school movies in the ’80s before The Breakfast Club, and there were many after, but none spoke to an entire generation as much as this one did. And for those of us born of into a certain generation, we can’t hear Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” on the radio or in the grocery store or wherever, without thinking of Judd Nelson doing a fist pump into the air on a football field. It’s ingrained into our psyches forever.

Now a Youtube user by the name of Robert Jones has uploaded a tribute video to the great teen movies of the ’80s, centered around The Breakfast Club’s anthem, “Don’t You (Forget About Me.)” Almost every great teen centric movie of the era is showcased here, including all the John Hughes movies like Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, plus other favorites like Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Heathers, and The Karate Kid starring Ralph Macchio, which was the closest any of these movies had to an ethnic lead character (not everything was great about the ’80s.)

So check out this great tribute video below, or I’m gonna start “crackin’ skulls!”

Don't You (Forget About Me) - A Tribute to 80's Teen Movies

Be sure to pick up The Breakfast Club soundtrack on vinyl, so you can enjoy the movie’s music the vintage/correct way.

Bon Jovi, 2015-02-16 - app.com (Asbury Park Press), New Bon Jovi album on the way

New Bon Jovi album on the way

Jon Bon Jovi is not resting on his laurels.

The rocker is recording a new album in New York City, he confirmed to People magazine during a surprise show Thursday, Feb. 12, during Fashion Week at the Kenneth Cole clothing store in the Soho section of Manhattan.

"I was in the studio all day working on the new record. I walked here from the studio," Bon Jovi said.

There were no details on who he's writing with or whether the new record is a Bon Jovi or a Jon Bon Jovi solo record. His representative did not return a call for comment.

He did divulge the inspiration for the new batch of songs.

"I just read the paper; it gives you an opportunity to write something ... It's early, but I'm about a dozen songs in. I feel good,'' Bon Jovi said.

It obviously doesn't seem like Richie Sambora, the co-author of numerous Bon Jovi hits like ''Livin' on a Prayer'' and ''You Give Love a Bad Name,'' is part of the process. He exited the band in 2013 and is currently working on his own solo album.

Bon Jovi was performing at the Common Thread: An Acoustic Collection Music Series, an event he curated with Cole to give new artists exposure. Bon Jovi opened the acoustic show for Rodney Atkins, Rose Falcon and Cole Redding. About 100 people were in the audience, according to the Associated Press.

"You can have all the bells and whistles of production these days, and these guys that are out there singing on the Grammys with auto-tune. I always used to say, 'I'm going to hand you my guitar, sing me something, and I want to see you play it,' '' Bon Jovi told Associated Press. "This is that night, so we'll have a little bit of fun and give back.''

Bon Jovi, accompanied by Bobby Bandiera and Carl Gentry, performed "Who Says You Can't Go Home,'' "Livin' On a Prayer'' and "Wanted: Dead or Alive.''

Hear Madonna's Impressive Isolated Vocals From Her Grammy Performance

Isolated vocals are one of the Internet's great obsessions, and they often don't end well (sorry, Mariah/Taylor/Britney). That makes us all the more pleased when a pop star delivers a demanding performance and still sounds remarkable, as is the case for the vocals purportedly extracted from Madonna's recent Grammy appearance. The singer's rendition of "Living for Love" found her being handed off among a mosaic of men dressed as bulls, destroying some '80s-throwback choreography and still hitting every word during the six-minute performance (atop a recorded vocal track, of course). Anyone who says Madonna isn't still the master at 56 years old has not been paying attention.

Hollywood marriages often crash and burn, but rocker Jon Bon Jovi's has been soaring for 25 years.

What's his secret? It's simple.

"I got it right the first time," Bon Jovi told PEOPLE at Common Thread: An Acoustic Collection Music Series, an event he is curating with designer Kenneth Cole in New York City.

Sounds so simple, right? Just pick the right person the first time, don't settle for someone else. But then, why do so many people get it wrong? Well, not everyone is as lucky as Bon Jovi, who married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea.

"She's the best, I just adore her," he said.

His marriage obviously isn't the only success in his life. Bon Jovi's band is still one of the biggest touring bands in the world, which was proven by the screaming fans outside the Kenneth Cole store in Soho and the audience singing along to his acoustic rendition of "Livin' on a Prayer" at the event.

Fans will be happy to know he has another album in the works.

"I was in the studio all day working on the new record. I walked here from the studio," the musician told PEOPLE. Where is he getting inspiration for his 18th album? From the news.

"I just read the paper, it gives you an opportunity to write something ... It's early but I'm about a dozen songs in. I feel good."

As for Thursday night's event, Bon Jovi and Kenneth Cole have known each other for a decade and decided to curate this series over dinner one night.

"Around Christmas time, as a matter of fact, we were out to dinner with our wives reminiscing about the year gone by and we were talking about the frustrations both in the design world and the music world ... And we were talking about what a joy that is when you see that next generation come through," Bon Jovi expressed. "So he said, 'For Fashion Week wouldn't it be neat if we did something like this?' And he was promoting the next generation's designers and I could throw a bone to some good songwriters, and I know plenty of them. So we said, this is a great concept. And I'm here, and it's Fashion Week and it gave us an excuse to go to dinner again ... it's giving back to the next generation, all at the same time."

He did just that Thursday, opening up the stage to up-and-coming artists Rodney Atkins, Rose Falcon and Cole Redding.

This isn't the only time the duo has teamed up to give back. Bon Jovi's Soul Foundation teamed up with Kenneth Cole's wife, Maria, and HELP USA to build a 50-unit apartment building in Newark, New Jersey, together.

"Across the country my foundation has built 450 houses and the kitchen is doing great," he said, referring to Soul Kitchen, his pay-what-you-can charity restaurant in New Jersey.

"It's so rewarding emotionally. I try to explain to people, take part in what we do because you'll leave there feeling so good about it."

U2, 2015-02-12 - U2.com, "Every Breaking Wave" - A Film by Aoife McArdle

http://www.u2.com/news/title/making-wave/

'Making Waves'

Today The Creators Project premieres Irish director Aoife McArdle’s Every Breaking Wave, a short film based on the U2 song of the same name.

Set on the streets of early 1980s Northern Ireland, the film is built around themes of emotional abandon and the uncertainty of romantic relationships. It follows two teenagers, one Catholic and the other Protestant, who fall in love amidst ongoing violence and the film's emotional core is centred around 'Every Breaking Wave' and 'The Troubles,' two tracks from Songs of Innocence.

'I wanted to make a film about what it was like to be a teenager in the early '80s in Northern Ireland.' explains Belfast-born McArdle. 'All the different pressures on you, the pressures of friendship, of falling in love for the first time, and all that in the face of huge troubles. Violence was inescapable on your doorstep. I remember very vividly what it was like to grow up when there were bombs going off and army everywhere so I did draw on a lot of memories.

'I hope people see that it's a story. A story that's based on real stories. It's like capturing a time. And I hope people feel inspired by how resilient teenagers at that time were in Northern Ireland, and moved by their ability to live life in as full a way as possible, despite the circumstances.'

"Every Breaking Wave" - A Film by Aoife McArdle

The film is already garnering praise and winning fans. Filmmaker Spike Jonze had not seen McArdle's work previously but 'was really taken' with her film.

'She captured that feeling and size of life of being a teenager and of first love so well. She drifts between the reality of friends and first love into fantasy so effortlessly and romantically. It's a perfect little gem of a romance movie.'

Hotel Rwanda writer/director Terry George says McArdle has pulled off one of the most difficult tasks facing any filmmaker. 'She has taken a Romeo and Juliet romance, set in the back streets and alleyways of Belfast, and created a universal story.
'Aoife has captured the tragedy of our young men and women, so full of life and passion, energy and possibility, being swallowed up by the destroying rage of poverty, bigotry and repression.'

As for the band, whose song inspired the film, Edge says they find the finished film 'extraordinary'.

'The Aoife McArdle short film expands on the theme of Songs of innocence which was largely rooted in our experience growing up in the early eighties in Dublin. Aoife chose west Belfast in the same period, as it was the neighbourhood that was so formative to her. We think her work is something pretty extraordinary.'

Madonna - Living For Love

This is the awesome new video by Madonna.
From the new album "Rebel Heart" out on March 10th.

Madonna - Living For Love

Hope you will love this awesome lyric.

Madonna - Living For Love

First you love me and I let you in
Made me feel like I was born again
You empowered me, you made me strong
Built me up and I can do no wrong

I let down my guard, I fell into your arms
Forgot who I was, I didn't hear the alarms
Now I'm down on my knees, alone in the dark
I was blind to your game
You fired a shot in my heart

Took me to heaven and let me fall down
Now that it's over I'm gonna carry on
Lifted me up, and watched me stumble
After the heartache I'm gonna carry on

Living for love
Living for love
I'm not giving up
I'm gonna carry on
Living for love
I'm living for love
Not gonna stop
Love's gonna lift me up

(Love, lift me up)
Love's gonna lift me up
(Love, lift me up)
Love's gonna lift me up

I could get caught up in bitterness
But I'm not dwelling on this crazy mess
I found freedom in the ugly truth
I deserve the best and it's not you

You've broken my heart, but you can't bring it down
I've fallen apart, I was lost, now I'm found
I picked up my crown, put it back on my head
I can forgive, but I will never forget

Took me to heaven and let me fall down
Now that it's over I'm gonna carry on
Lifted me up and watched me stumble
After the heartache I'm gonna carry on

Living for love
I'm living for love
I'm not giving up
I'm gonna carry on
Living for love
I'm living for love
Not gonna stop
Love's gonna lift me up

(Love, lift me up)
Love's gonna lift me up
(Love, lift me up)
Love's gonna lift me up

Love's gonna lift me up

Love, love lift me
Love, love lift me
God forgive me
I'm gonna carry on
Love, love lift me
Love, love lift me
God forgive me
Love's gonna lift me up
Love, love lift me
Love, love lift me
God forgive me
Love's gonna lift me up
Up, up, up
Don't leave me out, out, out
Love's gonna lift me up

Living for love
Living for love
I'm not giving up
I'm gonna carry on
Living for love
I'm living for love
Not gonna stop
Love's gonna lift me up

Come on, come on, come on
I need you to
Lift me up up up
Come on
Lift me up lord
