I had a VIP package. Had to go to "Scholars Lounge" (Irish Bar & Club) to the U2 Fan Party.
Before going to the Irish Pub I visited Rome. Was hot but it was awesome to visit the Coliseum and Fontana Di Trevi. Took many photos to remember.
It was awesome. Met some new U2 friends like: Michelle Van Gerven, Maureen Dudley and Wendy Tsang. We had some presents, free lunch and even a tribute U2 band playing there.
We had 1 band before U2 ("Interpol").
The band was Interpol. They played for 45 minutes. I hate them.
Finally was time for U2. They started the show at 21h27 and played for 133 minutes.
When the 2010 European tour dates were announced on 24 September 2009, Coimbra was listed as the final city of the European leg. This show was not confirmed until 30 November 2009, displacing Coimbra as the last city.

I slept outside the stadium for the second night to see this second U2 show in Coimbra.
We had 1 band before U2 ("Interpol").
The band was Interpol. They played for 45 minutes. I hate them.
Finally was time for U2. They started the show at 21h48 and played for 132 minutes.
Live debut of Boy Falls From The Sky, performed as a special surprise in honour of Coimbra's very enthusiastic reception of U2. The song, written by U2, features in the Broadway stage production Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark.
For the first time ever, U2 perform in Portugal twice on the one tour. The Coimbra shows were initially listed as the final dates of U2's 2010 European leg - the first show was included in the initial announcement on 24 September 2009, and this second show was added on 20 October 2009. Coimbra lost its status as the final city of the leg on 30 November 2009, when the 8 October 2010 concert in Rome was confirmed.

Manic Street Preachers, 2010-07-09 - Optimus Alive 10!, Algés

Arrived at Optimus Alive!10 at 8 AM and only left Optimus Alive!10 at 3 AM next morning. 19 hour day of waiting and music.
Close to 11 AM some portuguese fans from Lisbon and Alentejo arrived and soon after 2 british girls Hanna and Lara who come from UK just to see "Manic Street Preachers".
At 11 AM a portuguese band start the rehearsal on the entrance portico. Actually I hated that band. That style was trash-metal that I hate. The band later started to play as 15h30.
Around 15:30 we started to walk trough the corridors. Some minutes after 16h00 we get in Optimus Alive!10
I was interviewed around 17h00 by someone from the TV Station SIC RADICAL. The 2 girls from Britain were interviewed before me.
The concerts started around the scheduled time. That was good. It's a festival with several bands, so it was good.
Before "Manic street Preachers" in Optimus alive!10, played "Jet" and "Mão Morta" (portuguese band) and after MSP played "Skunk Anansie".
We had 2 bands before Manic Street Preachers ("Jet" and "Mão Morta").
The first band was Jet. They started at 18h30 and played for 56 minutes. They were good. Very friendly with a good sound. I like them. I liked very much the song "17" that I didn't knew before. In some songs the drummer also sang while the vocalist was playing guitar.

Their concert was amazing. I loved to see them again live. One of my favorite bands ever.
They started with my favorite song "Motorcyle Emptiness" (made a video). This was their first hit ever and the song that made me love them.
I also made a video of "Suicide Is Painless", other of my favorite songs. This was a very famous song of an american 70's series named "MASH".
At the end of the setlist on paper was written this: "My Guitar Is Your Best Friend, Your Wife, Your Mistress, Your Psychiatrist, Your Bartender - It's Everything" - LES PAUL
For anyone who knows them knows this story of sentences. The MSP are a very political band and very left-wing. In the lyrics they write notices that a lot. I have some tour books of their past concert tours that I saw and in their tour books as in all their CDs they always have many famous phrases. Phrases always with a sense of certain political situations that are happening.
"The Everlasting (Acoustic)" was amazing. Only with the vocalist alone on stage. James Dead Bradfield, his name.
James Dean Bradfield was completely on fire. He loved of course again the Portuguese people. He spoke at the beginning of the concert of 98 concert in Lisbon. He could not remember the year well and said something. We've been here on 98 or 99. And then I screamed was in 98 and I've been there, hehe.
This was my third MSP concert. I saw the first 2 in Lisbon. 1993/Dec/07 in Pavilhão Carlos Lopes and in 1998/Nov/02 in Coliseu de Lisboa. Two amazing shows in wich I stayed with their setlist in paper. On this third show I didn't get it because the 2 British friends stayed with the setlist.

We had 1 band after Manic Street Preachers ("Skunk Anansie").
The fourth band was Skunk Anansie. They were a little late. 15 minutes after the schedulle time. They appear at 23:05 and they played for 78 minutes. I didn't enjoy they're performance. Skin was great, always with a lot of energy, jumping around the stage. The show started with songs very loud.
Funny to see Skin getting out of the stage and running in front of me. The design of their stage was very good, the drummer was excelent and even sang some songs. Skin loved the public like always. She was very happy.

After Skunk Anansie I got out of the main Optimus Alive!10 stage and went to the Super Bock Stage (Dance Music). Arrive there close to 1 AM.
Saw first at 1 AM the "Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77" and then with a 20 minute delay at 2h20 AM the amazing "Steve Aoki". I made a video of the "Bloody Beetroots" and 2 videos of "Steve Aoki". Don't have this videos on the net, sorry.
I didn't see "Steve Aoki" till the end because I was so tired. On my way out I bought several stuff on a store there "Merchandise Mania". I bought a sweater with hood of "Within Temptation" other of my favorite bands. Also bought 4 sets of 4 pins each by "Marilyn Manson", "Linkin Park", "Metallica" and "Bon Jovi". The 4 pins of Bon Jovi are the album covers of 4 albuns: Lost Highway, Bounce, Keep the Faith and Slippery When Wet (this with a photo of the girl with a torn tshirt of Slippery).
I left Optimus Alive and arrive to the train at 3 AM. Caught the 3h30 train to Cais do Sodré. And then a bus to Saldanha (near my home, 5 minutes walking).

We had 1 band after Manic Street Preachers ("Skunk Anansie").
The fourth band was Skunk Anansie. They were a little late. 15 minutes after the schedulle time. They appear at 23:05 and they played for 78 minutes. I didn't enjoy they're performance. Skin was great, always with a lot of energy, jumping around the stage. The show started with songs very loud.
Funny to see Skin getting out of the stage and running in front of me. The design of their stage was very good, the drummer was excelent and even sang some songs. Skin loved the public like always. She was very happy.

After Skunk Anansie I got out of the main Optimus Alive!10 stage and went to the Super Bock Stage (Dance Music). Arrive there close to 1 AM.
Saw first at 1 AM the "Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77" and then with a 20 minute delay at 2h20 AM the amazing "Steve Aoki". I made a video of the "Bloody Beetroots" and 2 videos of "Steve Aoki". Don't have this videos on the net, sorry.
I didn't see "Steve Aoki" till the end because I was so tired. On my way out I bought several stuff on a store there "Merchandise Mania". I bought a sweater with hood of "Within Temptation" other of my favorite bands. Also bought 4 sets of 4 pins each by "Marilyn Manson", "Linkin Park", "Metallica" and "Bon Jovi". The 4 pins of Bon Jovi are the album covers of 4 albuns: Lost Highway, Bounce, Keep the Faith and Slippery When Wet (this with a photo of the girl with a torn tshirt of Slippery).
I left Optimus Alive and arrive to the train at 3 AM. Caught the 3h30 train to Cais do Sodré. And then a bus to Saldanha (near my home, 5 minutes walking).

Bon Jovi, 2010-06-26 - O2 Arena, London

I went on the same day of the concert to Luton, London. At Luton Airport caught the Greenline bus to Hyde Park, London. Then went by foot to Knightsbridge to Hotel Mandarim where Bon Jovi were staying.
There were already a lot of Bon Jovi fans out there to see if they could see the guys from Bon Jovi. I found several friends from other Bon Jovi tours.
I saw Tico arriving at the Hotel, took a photo with my right arm and caught Tico and me looking to the side. It was the only photo I could take with Tico. He was not very friendly with us fans.
Few minutes later Richie arrived but got in trough the other door further away. The italian fans saw him.
I also have photos of Obie, Bandiera and David Bryan. This time I didn't see Hugh. I also took a photo of Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and David Bryan getting out of the hotel to a car. I touched Richie's back on his way to the car.
After that little episode me and all the fans got out of the hotel main entrance and went to the O2 Arena. The Jubilee Line was down so we have to change to other lines in the tube.
Arriving to O2 Arena just found out the other Backstage Members. Nice to see the BJ fans again.
Before I got in the O2 Arena just went to the merchandising of Bon Jovi to buy some things. Bought a Bon Jovi t-shirt, 4 buttons and 2 tour books (1 of the tour books was to a friend (Olga) who ask me for a tour book).
Before Bon Jovi in the O2 Arena, London played Kid Rock.
We had 1 band before Bon Jovi ("Kid Rock").
The singer was Kid Rock. He started at 19:09 and played for 56 minutes. I like him. Kid Rock walk all over the stage and played a lot of instruments. He did the same on Dublin 2008 (first time I saw him, also before Bon Jovi). I also liked to see Kid Rock with the American and English flag together as one behind the stage. Before Kid Rock appeared I ate a hot dog and a coca-cola.
Finally was time for Bon Jovi. They started the show at 20h35 and played for 167 minutes.
This was the last of 12 night shows Bon Jovi performed on the O2 Arena from June 7 to June 26, 2010. This was the only one I went.
The show was really good. This time I was closer than when they opened the O2 Arena on 2007. This time I could see them on stage and on the giant screens.
I liked to see the video Bon Jovi had on the beginning. The video with the circle and with the shadows of the guys.
About the stage: love to see the screens. On a song the screens turn down and Jon walk all over them jumping from one to another.
"In These Arms" is still one of my favorite Bon Jovi songs ever. I love to hear this song live once again.
When Bon Jovi were playing "Bad Medicine" Kid Rock went on stage to sing with the guys "Old Time Rock & Roll". It was awesome.
"Lay Your Hands on Me" was sang by Richie Sambora on vocals. I just didn't feel it. To be sincere I prefer to hear this song sang by Jon Bon Jovi.
"Bed Of Roses" was amazing.
"Diamond Ring" was very boring. I hate this song and live is so boring.
"Bullet" was good to see live but I prefer "Fast Cars".
On one song Jon called the other Bon Jovi members to go with him to the catwalk. I took several photos of the catwalk with them. They stayed from left to right: first Tico Torres, then Richie Sambora, Jon BJ and David Bryan.
The images on screen were also different from old Bon Jovi tour live shows. Several times the guys were on big screens with a lot of fireworks. Never saw effects like these on BJ shows before.
Encore with 6 songs. It was awesome.
Before they played "These Days" Jon started to sing "Livin' On A Prayer" but at the end of some seconds he stopped and said something like this: "Already!!! I think is not time for this song yet!!!". It was very funny. And "These Days" is other of my favorite songs by Bon Jovi.
I loved to hear almost at the end of the show the amazing "It's hard letting you go". Made a video to remember.

Bon Jovi, 2010-06-04 - Rock In Rio, Madrid

I went on the 7h50 am plane to Madrid through "Iberia". I arrive there at (11:41 am Lisbon time) 12:41 Madrid time. I met 2 brasilian Bon Jovi fans who lived in Madrid on the train station near Arganda Del Rey (14:37). Had a ride with 2 portuguese friends and the 2 brasilians to the Rock In Rio place. Arrive there at 15:55. The gates open near 19:00. I arrive front row left side at 19:12.
Bon Jovi were amazing. Started after midnight. I took a lot of photos (will show them in the next post).
We had 2 bands before Bon Jovi ("Macaco" and "Pereza").
The first band was Macaco. They played for 60 minutes. I like them. Never heard of them before, but they were really good.
The second band was Pereza. They played for 62 minutes. I saw them for the second time. The first time was in Madrid May 22nd 2003 when they played also before Bon Jovi in Estádio La Peineta. I don't like them on both shows.

Before Shakira in Rock In Rio, Lisbon played Ivete Sangalo and John Mayer.
We had 2 bands before Shakira ("Ivete Sangalo" and "John Mayer").

Metallica, 2010-05-19 - Pavilhão Atlântico, Lisbon
Metallica time "World Magnetic Tour 10".

I arrive there in the afternoon. I had a Balcony ticket. That's why this concert I could arrive late.
Metallica were amazing. There's no band that do a show like them. They really love Portugal and they show it. The guys were really happy. The sound was amazing. Also did 249 photos during the day.
This was the second show in Pavilhão Atlântico (May 18th and 19th). I was sad to not go close the stage this time and sad to miss the first show (the tickets sold out very fast).
When Metallica finish the concert they stood on stage about 10 minutes at least saying hi to everyone on the first rows and giving hundreds of picks and drum sticks to everyone. I never saw other bands doing this for so long.
About the songs. Watching the 2 setlists I prefer this one of the second day (the one I went). They sang some songs that I love on the second show like "WHEREVER I MAY ROAM" (simply amazing) and "ALL NIGHTMARE LONG" (is also amazing).

Spandau Ballet, 2010-03-14 - Pavilhão Atlântico, Lisbon
I went to Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon to see Spandau Ballet live.
Took some photos and videos of Spandau Ballet.
First time and only that I saw the amazing Spandau Ballet live. Finaly one of my favorite bands of the 80s was here in my city doing a show.
Finally was time for Spandau Ballet. They played for 105 minutes.

The Cranberries, 2010-03-10 - Campo Pequeno, Lisbon
I went to Campo Pequeno in Lisbon to see The Cranberries live.
First part of The Cranberries was by "Outside Royalty".
Took some photos of Outside Royalty and photos and videos of The Cranberries.
It was the second time that I went to see them live. After 2002-April-11. First show was in Pavilhão Atlântico. This 2010-March-10 was on Campo Pequeno.
I love the concert. I arrived there at 18:15 and still made it the first row to the left side.
First part was by Outside Royalty. They played for 30 minutes.
"Outside Royalty" are a band from London. 1 vocalist, 1 drummer, 1 keyboard player, 1 or 2 guitar players and 1 french lady playing violoncello. I love their sound. They were a really good surprise.
At the end of The Cranberries show outside Campo Pequeno 2 members of "Outside Royalty" were at the main gate and spoke with everyone. I went to spoke with them, took some photos with them, they autographed the CD I bought of them. They were very nice and they even gave me some gifts.
Finally was time for The Cranberries. They played for 80 minutes.
"The Cranberries" were amazing. They played 21 songs. I made 15 complete videos and took photos on the other 6 songs. The videos are really cool.

Marilyn Manson, 2009-12-01 - Campo Pequeno, Lisbon
I went to Campo Pequeno in Lisbon to see Marilyn Manson live.
First part of Marilyn Manson was by "Esoterica".
Took some photos of Esoterica and photos and videos of Marilyn Manson.
It was the third time that I went to see him live. After 1998-Nov-29 and 2007-Nov-19. Those 2 shows were in Pavilhão Atlântico. This 2009-Dec-01 was on Campo Pequeno. This was not my favorite show of him but was very good. My favorite was the one in 2007. I was the first one to get inside Campo Pequeno and I choose the middle of first row.
First part was by Esoterica. They played for 29 minutes.
Finally was time for Marilyn Manson. He played for 82 minutes.
Campo Pequeno was half empty to receive Marilyn Manson and his band. His real name is Brian Hugh Warner (born January 5, 1969).
On a cloud of smoke the members of their band got on stage. Marilyn Manson was with some laser claws.
The great "Disposable Teens" composed by Twiggy Ramirez who is now the guitar player of Marilyn Manson (before he was the bass player).
In "Pretty As A Swastika" the nazi signs where replaced by the dollar sign.
During the several changes of songs the audience saw some transformations of Marilyn Manson. From a soldier to a bible preacher with the bible on flames in his hand.
"Dried Up, Tied And Dead To The World", brought Marilyn Manson with a electric guitar that he throw to the floor like the mics that already went down before.
Marilyn Manson defended the use of drugs before "The Dope Show". "Consume all drugs possible" said Marilyn Manson.
Marilyn Manson grab a poster from the public where it was this: "Oh Twiggy, how I love those lovely nipples".
A rain of confettis closed the show.

It was the third time that I went to see him live. After 1998-Nov-29 and 2007-Nov-19. Those 2 shows were in Pavilhão Atlântico. This 2009-Dec-01 was on Campo Pequeno. This was not my favorite show of him but was very good. My favorite was the one in 2007. I was the first one to get inside Campo Pequeno and I choose the middle of first row.
First part was by Esoterica. They played for 29 minutes.
Finally was time for Marilyn Manson. He played for 82 minutes.
Campo Pequeno was half empty to receive Marilyn Manson and his band. His real name is Brian Hugh Warner (born January 5, 1969).
On a cloud of smoke the members of their band got on stage. Marilyn Manson was with some laser claws.
The great "Disposable Teens" composed by Twiggy Ramirez who is now the guitar player of Marilyn Manson (before he was the bass player).
In "Pretty As A Swastika" the nazi signs where replaced by the dollar sign.
During the several changes of songs the audience saw some transformations of Marilyn Manson. From a soldier to a bible preacher with the bible on flames in his hand.
"Dried Up, Tied And Dead To The World", brought Marilyn Manson with a electric guitar that he throw to the floor like the mics that already went down before.
Marilyn Manson defended the use of drugs before "The Dope Show". "Consume all drugs possible" said Marilyn Manson.
Marilyn Manson grab a poster from the public where it was this: "Oh Twiggy, how I love those lovely nipples".
A rain of confettis closed the show.

Rammstein, 2009-11-08 - Pavilhão Atlântico, Lisbon
I went to Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon to see Rammstein live for the first time (Sunday).
First part of Rammstein was by "Combichrist".
I don't like Rammstein but I only went because a friend invite me.
The sound was amazing. I was on the first balcony.
Took some photos of Combichrist and photos and videos of Rammstein. I will not show online the Rammstein photos, only the videos.
First part was by Combichrist. They played for 33 minutes.
I liked the first part of their act, techno sound very cool. But the final part I hate it because the vocalist "grunts" a lot and I didn't understand a word he said.
Finally was time for Rammstein. They played for 96 minutes.
They sang in german so I didn't understand what they were singing. A good stage show with a lot of fire scenes (not speaking the music). During the show they even put a man on fire and a member of the band went up the audience in a float water device.

The amazing Patrick Swayze is gone forever. Sad to see one of the best and most sensitive person in this planet to go with "Stage IV pancreatic cancer".
He did some amazing movies. "Donnie Darko" is one of my favorite movies ever. "Point Break", "Dirty Dancing" and "Road House" are also on my top Patrick Swayze favorite movies.

Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter. He was best known for his tough-guy roles, as romantic leading men in the hit films Dirty Dancing and Ghost, and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was named by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991. His film and TV career spanned 30 years.
Diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008, Swayze told Barbara Walters a year later that he was "kicking it". However, he died from the disease on September 14, 2009. Early life
Patrick Swayze was born on August 18, 1952, in Houston, Texas, the second child of Patsy Yvonne Helen (née Karnes; born 1927), a choreographer, dance instructor, and dancer, and Jesse Wayne Swayze (1925–1982), an engineering draftsman. He had two younger brothers, actor Don Swayze (born 1958) and Sean Kyle (born 1962), and two sisters, Vickie Lynn (1949–1994) and Bambi. He was a sixth cousin once removed of news commentator John Cameron Swayze, and a relative of noted Texas Revolution soldier Henry Karnes. Swayze was raised Roman Catholic.
Until the age of twenty, Swayze lived in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Houston, where he attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, Oak Forest Elementary School, Black Middle School, and Waltrip High School. During this time, he also pursued multiple artistic and athletic skills, such as ice skating, classical ballet, and acting in school plays. He played football for his high school and was hoping to receive a football scholarship for college until a knee injury ended his career. He studied gymnastics at nearby San Jacinto College for two years.
In 1972, he moved to New York City to complete his formal dance training at the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey ballet schools.
Illness and death
In late January 2008, Swayze was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer (specifically, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm). He traveled to the Stanford University Medical Center for chemotherapy and treatment with the experimental drug Vatalanib, the latter of which doctors hoped would cut off the blood supply to the tumor. On March 5, 2008, a Reuters article reported that Swayze "has a very limited amount of disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far." Swayze's doctor confirmed that the actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but insisted he was not as close to death as reports suggest. Despite repeated tabloid claims that his death was imminent, Swayze continued to actively pursue his career.
In early May 2008, it was widely reported in a number of tabloids that Swayze had undergone surgery to remove part of his stomach after the spread of the cancer and that he had rewritten his will, transferring his property to his wife. In a statement made on May 28, Swayze said that he continued to respond well to treatment at Stanford University Medical Center. In late May 2008, he was seen at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game, his first public appearance since his diagnosis. In 2008 Swayze was treated with Cyberknife radiotherapy cancer treatment.
In late July 2008, six months after reportedly being given just weeks to live by medical experts, a healthy-appearing Swayze was asked by reporter in Los Angeles airport about this health. He replied, "I'm cooking. I'm a miracle dude. I don't know why".
Swayze appeared on the ABC, NBC, and CBS simulcast of Stand Up to Cancer in September 2008, to appeal to the general public for donations for the initiative. Swayze said to a standing ovation "I dream that the word 'cure' will no longer be followed by the words 'it's impossible'. Together, we can make a world where cancer no longer means living with fear, without hope, or worse". After the show ended, Swayze remained on-stage and talked to other cancer patients; executive producer Laura Ziskin said, "He said a beautiful thing: 'I'm just an individual living with cancer'. That's how he wants to be thought of. He's in a fight, but he's a fighter". In late 2008, Swayze denied claims made by tabloids that the cancer had spread to his liver. Swayze told Barbara Walters in January 2009 that he wanted the media to report that he was "kicking it".
When Barbara Walters asked him if he was using any holistic or alternative methods of treatment besides the chemotherapy, Swayze admitted to using some Chinese herbs, but not much. He then voiced his opposition to the unsupported claims made by proponents of alternative therapies, as noted by ABC News journalist Joseph Brownstein:
Because of the grim prognosis, many patients turn to alternative therapies without scientific evidence behind them. Swayze did not.
"That's one thing I'm not gonna do, is chase, is chase staying alive. I'm not, you know, you'll spend so much time chasing staying alive you won't live, you know? I wanna live. If anybody had that cure out there like so many people swear to me they do, you'd be two things: you'd be very rich, and you'd be very famous. Otherwise, shut up," he told Barbara Walters in an interview that aired in January [2009].
His last role was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. Owing to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series, and on June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been cancelled. In an interview with Barbara Walters which aired in January 2009, Swayze admitted that he had a "tiny little mass" in his liver. On January 9, 2009, Swayze was hospitalized with pneumonia. The pneumonia was said to be a complication of chemotherapy treatments for Swayze's cancer. On January 16, he was released from the hospital to rest at home with his wife. On April 19, 2009, doctors informed Swayze that the cancer had again metastasized to his liver. Swayze stated that his chain smoking probably "had something to do with" the development of his disease. Photos taken of a gaunt Swayze in the months before his death showed him continuing to smoke.
Swayze died with family at his side on September 14, 2009, at age 57, 20 months after being diagnosed. Swayze's publicist, Annett Wolf, confirmed to CNN that he had died of pancreatic cancer. He was cremated and his ashes scattered over his New Mexico ranch. He is survived by his wife Lisa Niemi, along with his mother, both brothers and one sister.

Most recently, Swayze starred in A&E Network's "The Beast," which debuted in January. He agreed to take the starring role of an undercover FBI agent before his diagnosis. "If I leave this Earth, I want to leave this Earth just knowing I've tried to give something back and tried to do something worthwhile with myself," Swayze told Walters, when asked why he decided to do the show. "And that keeps me going, that gets me up in the morning. My work ... is my legacy."
Swayze was mostly known for a handful of supporting roles when he broke through with his performance as dance instructor Johnny Castle in 1987's "Dirty Dancing."
Three years later, he became an even bigger star with "Ghost," in which he played an investment banker who dies and learns to tap into his unspoken feelings for his partner (Demi Moore). The film won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar and helped make him People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.
"Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can't ever repay," Goldberg said in a statement. "I believe in 'Ghost's' message, so he'll always be near."
Swayze told Entertainment Weekly in 1990 that "the movies that have had the most powerful effects on my life have been about romantic characters."
He expanded on the effort he put into love scenes for People in 1991.
"It's possibly the scariest thing I do," he said, "doing something so personal and giving people out there the opportunity to see if you're a good kisser or not."
Patrick Wayne Swayze was born on August 18, 1952, in Houston, Texas. His father was an engineering draftsman; his mother was a ballet dancer and later the director of the Houston Ballet Dance Company.
She led her son into the dancing world, which wasn't always easy for a Texas male. Indeed, the young Swayze played football, practiced martial arts and was an accomplished diver and track star while growing up, though he was good enough at dance to earn a college scholarship.
After an early professional job playing Prince Charming in an early '70s version of "Disney on Ice," Swayze returned to Houston, where he met Lisa Niemi, a student of his mother's. The two were married in 1975 and moved to New York to pursue their careers.
Swayze seemed set on a dance career: He studied with the prestigious Joffrey Ballet and joined another company, the Eliot Feld Ballet Company. But surgery for an old football injury ended his ballet career and he turned to acting, nabbing the lead role of Danny Zuko in the long-running Broadway production of "Grease" in 1978, around the time the movie starring John Travolta was hitting theaters. "Grease" earned him some Hollywood attention, and he and Niemi moved West.
After a couple of bit parts, including one in a 1981 episode of "M*A*S*H," Swayze picked up the role of Darrel Curtis in Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film of "The Outsiders," which also included future stars Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise. Swayze was also one of the leads in 1984's "Red Dawn," about teenagers defending their town from a Soviet attack on America.
But it was with "Dirty Dancing" that Swayze hit it big. The film about a girl's coming of age at a Catskills resort in the early '60s was intended for a limited release but became one of the decade's biggest sleeper hits and made Swayze and co-star Jennifer Grey household names.
The film gave birth to a catchphrase -- "Nobody puts Baby in a corner," spoken by Swayze's character to Grey's domineering father (Jerry Orbach) -- and eventually led to a follow-up, 2004's "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights." Swayze even sang a Top 10 hit, "She's Like the Wind," on the film's soundtrack.
Swayze, known as a down-to-earth, nice-guy actor, was determined not to follow a predictable career path.
He followed "Dirty Dancing" with "Road House" (1989) in which he played a manager at a rough-and-tumble bar (the film was particularly popular on late-night cable). He succeeded "Ghost" with "Point Break" (1991), about a group of thieves; "City of Joy" (1992), in which he played a doctor in a poverty-stricken Indian village; and "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" (1995), in which he starred as a drag queen.
''I don't want to be Mr. Romantic Leading Man. I don't want to be the Dance Dude. I don't want to be the Action Guy. If I had to do any one of those all my life, it'd drive me crazy,'' he told Entertainment Weekly in the 1990 interview.
Swayze's career diminished in the late '90s. He broke both legs in 1997 while making a film, "Letters From a Killer," and went into rehab to overcome an admitted drinking problem. In 2000, he was flying in his own twin-engine plane when the plane depressurized; Swayze landed in a housing development in Arizona. Though some witnesses say he appeared intoxicated, he was later revealed to have been suffering from hypoxia, related to the depressurization and his three-pack-a-day cigarette habit.
Swayze re-established his knack for picking sleepers with "Donnie Darko" (2001), the dark film about a troubled student that became a sensation on video. Swayze played a creepy motivational speaker and won raves for his performance.
Swayze's more recent films included a TV version of "King Solomon's Mines" and 2007's "Christmas in Wonderland."
Though he still had the power to make women's hearts flutter -- 22-year-old Scarlett Johansson, upon receiving Harvard's Hasty Pudding Award in February 2007, said her dream date was "probably Patrick Swayze, my dream come true" -- Swayze wasn't too impressed with himself.

U2, 2009-08-15 - Wembley Stadium, London
I was in London to see 2 amazing shows by U2 (Friday and Saturday).
First part of U2 by "The Hours" and "Glasvegas".
Took some photos and videos.

Finally was time for U2. They played for 141 minutes.
Loved this second show. Stayed on the first balcony and I shot the complete show in video. U2 sang 3 of my favorite songs (that they didn't play on the first show).
During the day I already had listen to the soundcheck of one of those songs (New Years Day).
U2 played 2 of my favorite songs ever: "Bad" and "New Years Day". They also played "Stay (Faraway so Close)", other of my favorite songs.
"Today, U2 played their second of two concerts in London. The soundcheck featured two songs that have traditionally been paired together in U2's setlists, Until The End Of The World and New Year's Day. At some point on all four of the last tours, the former has come to immediately precede the latter in U2's setlists; it was rare on Vertigo, but on ZooTV, Popmart, and Elevation, it was a segue played often. Tonight, the pairing made its first 360° Tour setlist appearance, showing up early in the main set.
Bad was played for the fourth time on this tour, while Stay showed up for its fifth tour performance. It looks like the movement of Desmond Tutu's speech to precede One rather than Streets has become a permanent change. Interestingly, Bono snippeted a line of A Day Without Me during the middle of The Unforgettable Fire; this is our first recorded snippet of the song, and its first recorded live appearance of any kind in our database since 18 April 1985. Although I Will Follow has been soundchecked before a couple of shows recently, this is the first appearance of any kind for a song from Boy during an actual 360° Tour concert.

Here it goes a review of a fan who was also on both shows at Wembley Stadium. I like the review.
"U2 360 at Wembley Stadium
I experienced something recently I will probably never experience again in my life. A production of such magnitude, such enormous scale, that it would be near impossible for any band, other than U2, to pull off.
It was a last minute decision to go – I didn't care much for their latest effort No Light on The Horizon – but when cheap tickets were offered I chose to grab them, purely because I anticipated a spectacle. I'd seen U2 play on their Vertigo tour back in 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand; it was amazing. I'd heard they were taking their new show to a new level... and they weren't kidding!
We took our seats high above center field at Wembley Stadium, London; the stage below us was truly a masterpiece of engineering. 'The Claw', a four-legged structure that covering the lozenge-shaped center stage and outer ring catwalk. A 360˚ expandable video screen hung from the center of The Claw displaying the tiny figures of Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam jaunting about on the vast stage area.
The video and lighting were impeccably designed and timed; from runway lights to one of the largest mirror balls you're ever likely to see. At my distance the band themselves felt a little underwhelming – not helped by my feeling their most recent album was fairly pedestrian – I had difficulty connecting at times throughout the concert. But, thankfully, they were gracious enough to play many of their mega-hit songs and that successfully got everyone standing up from their seats.
The feeling of 88,000 people singing Where The Streets Have No Name is not one that will leave me soon.
Sunday Bloody Sunday was hauntingly relevant as images of recent turmoil in the Iranian elections was projected and the entire stage was flooded in green light. Bono also drew attention to Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi who has lived under house arrest for much of the last twenty years. U2’s most iconic songs transcend age, race and historical events; paying testament to their ability to capture the essence of what it means to live in this world and why they've stayed on top of the music world for almost thirty years.
The pure enormity of this epic show and the chance you’ll never see anything on this scale again (well, until their next tour I suppose) prompts me to suggest you go and see this concert when it comes near your town... even if you agree with me in generally panning No Light on the Horizon.

Here it goes a review of a fan who was also on both shows at Wembley Stadium. I like the review.
"U2 360 at Wembley Stadium
I experienced something recently I will probably never experience again in my life. A production of such magnitude, such enormous scale, that it would be near impossible for any band, other than U2, to pull off.
It was a last minute decision to go – I didn't care much for their latest effort No Light on The Horizon – but when cheap tickets were offered I chose to grab them, purely because I anticipated a spectacle. I'd seen U2 play on their Vertigo tour back in 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand; it was amazing. I'd heard they were taking their new show to a new level... and they weren't kidding!
We took our seats high above center field at Wembley Stadium, London; the stage below us was truly a masterpiece of engineering. 'The Claw', a four-legged structure that covering the lozenge-shaped center stage and outer ring catwalk. A 360˚ expandable video screen hung from the center of The Claw displaying the tiny figures of Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam jaunting about on the vast stage area.
The video and lighting were impeccably designed and timed; from runway lights to one of the largest mirror balls you're ever likely to see. At my distance the band themselves felt a little underwhelming – not helped by my feeling their most recent album was fairly pedestrian – I had difficulty connecting at times throughout the concert. But, thankfully, they were gracious enough to play many of their mega-hit songs and that successfully got everyone standing up from their seats.
The feeling of 88,000 people singing Where The Streets Have No Name is not one that will leave me soon.
Sunday Bloody Sunday was hauntingly relevant as images of recent turmoil in the Iranian elections was projected and the entire stage was flooded in green light. Bono also drew attention to Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi who has lived under house arrest for much of the last twenty years. U2’s most iconic songs transcend age, race and historical events; paying testament to their ability to capture the essence of what it means to live in this world and why they've stayed on top of the music world for almost thirty years.
The pure enormity of this epic show and the chance you’ll never see anything on this scale again (well, until their next tour I suppose) prompts me to suggest you go and see this concert when it comes near your town... even if you agree with me in generally panning No Light on the Horizon.
