The tour of Bryan Adams is: "So Happy It Hurts Tour 2024".
It was my 17th Bryan Adams show. My 1st one was in December 13, 1991 in Estádio José de Alvalade, Lisbon.
I arrived at MEO Arena at 05:15 am. I was the 1st one to arrive to the queue. Talked to my old friends during the day. Doors opened at 19:30 and I run to the middle of the catwalk (just stayed about 1 or 2 meters from the middle to the left) and Bryan Adams was scheduled to start at 21:00.
There was an intro of 15 minutes that started at 20:59 where a flying car (powered by drones) was flying over the Arena above the public with some audio songs by Bryan Adams in the background.
Finally was time for Bryan Adams. He started at 21:13 and played 145 minutes. Played a set of 29 songs.
Love the concert. Bryan Adams always happy, talked a lot about his time in Birre when he was little with his family. Telling a lot of stories on this show even showing old slides from the times he was here in Portugal.

It was my 16th Bryan Adams show. My 1st one was in December 13, 1991 in Estádio José de Alvalade, Lisbon.
I arrived at MEO Arena at 05:15 am. I was the 1st one to arrive to the queue. Talked to my old friends during the day. Doors opened at 19:30 and I run to the middle of the catwalk and Bryan Adams was scheduled to start at 21:00.
There was an intro of 15 minutes that started at 21:00 where a flying car (powered by drones) was flying over the Arena above the public with some audio songs by Bryan Adams in the background.
Finally was time for Bryan Adams. He started at 21:15 and played 150 minutes. Played a set of 29 songs.
Love the concert. Bryan Adams always happy, talked a lot about his time in Birre when he was little with his family. Telling a lot of stories on this show even showing old slides from the times he was here in Portugal.

The tour of Simple Minds is: "Global Tour 2024".
It was my 7th Simple Minds show. My 1st one was in July 31, 1991 in the old Estádio José Alvalade, Lisbon.
I arrived at Campo Pequeno at 6:30 pm. It was a hot day. Doors opened at 7:30 pm and Simple Minds were scheduled to start at 8:30 pm.
I bought a Simple Minds official T-Shirt from this tour on the merchandising stand. Not long for Simple Minds to play.
Simple Minds. They started at 20:31 and played for 107 minutes. Played a set of 17 songs.
Love the concert. Jim Kerr always friendly with the fans. He even touch my hand once.

It was my 2nd Depeche Mode show. My 1st one was in July 11, 1993 in the old Estádio José de Alvalade, Lisbon (31 years ago).
I arrived at Altice Arena at 06:00 am. It was a windy, sunny day. Doors opened at 19:00 and Depeche Mode was scheduled to start at 21:30.
Before "Depeche Mode" in Altice Arena, played Suzie Stapleton, she started at 20:29 and played 31 minutes.

Stapleton relocated to the UK in 2015 after several European tours and a chance encounter with producer Cypress Grove. The tour of Madonna is: "The Celebration Tour".
It was my 12th Madonna show. 2nd of 2 shows here in Altice Arena, Lisbon.
I arrived at Altice Arena at 18:00. Doors opened at 19:00 and Madonna was scheduled to start at 20:30.
For this show I bought the "Where's The Party Premium Ticket Package".
This package includes:
- One reserved ticket,
- Limited edition litograph,
- Merchandise item designed and created exclusively for package purchasers,
- Collectable laminate & lanyard to remember your evening,
- Designated check in and on-site event staff.
I got in around 19:00. Received my merchandising from the VIP Package, was missing the litograph. They said that I had to ask by email to send it to me.
Before "Madonna" in Altice Arena, played DJ Barata, he started at 19h31 and played 58 minutes.
Finally was time for Madonna. She started at 21:33 (this time only 63 minutes late) and played 136 minutes. Played a set of 27 songs.
Love the concert. One of my favorite Madonna tours for sure. She told a lot of stories on this show about her life all along this last 40 years of her career. She talked about when she came to live in Lisbon for a few years.

I arrived at Altice Arena at 05:30 am. It was a sunny day with some clouds and a little rain. Doors opened at 19:15 and Madonna was scheduled to start at 20:30.
For this show I bought the "Floor A GA". When I got in through the left side, I found out that the main pit was still open, so I went there and got a bracelet to get in. I managed to stay in the second or third row in the middle of the pit but walked around in a few songs.

She tells the crowd of her early days being “hungry, broke and scared” in New York, with a lack of support from her father, who wanted her to come back home.
“But I was not about to go back,” she declares. “Because I am not a quitter!”
You can say that again. Madonna has been many things to many people over her 40-year pop career – something this two-hour-plus, 40-odd song, multiple-costume-change telling of “the story of my life through music and dance” makes very clear. But throughout it all, she has always been an absolute trouper.
Most other performers would have balked at taking on a gruelling world tour less than four months after a stay in the ICU with a serious bacterial infection. Many more might have at least considered tempering the ambitious nature of an all-singing, all-dancing show that would be a physical challenge for any of today’s young pop megastars, let alone a 65-year-old pop veteran with strapping on her knee.
But not Madonna. After postponing the scheduled first leg, the tour finds itself starting – a mere 20 minutes late – at London’s O2 Arena, the very venue where, in 2015, she famously fell down the stairs after a cape malfunction at the BRIT Awards.
Those of us who were close enough to hear the thud as she hit the floor like a pole-axed prize fighter that night were amazed when she simply got back to her feet and got on with the show. And tonight, she metaphorically climbs off the canvas of that hospital stay to reclaim her pop heavyweight crown, a metaphor helpfully supported by the elaborate boxing set-up utilized during the lead-up to the show’s second act.
There are few signs that Madonna was fazed by the fraught run-up, let alone the lengthy “reset” required after her punky rip through “Burning Up.” She may sigh, “This is exactly what you don’t want to happen on your opening night,” but she simply gets her hype man Bob the Drag Queen up to tell jokes, while reminiscing about the days when she would trade “blowjobs for showers” in ‘80s NYC.
Tonight, the Madonna show goes on and, after that early hitch, it simply doesn’t stop, laying on spectacle after spectacle and show-stopper after show-stopper. With so many stages, set-ups and costume changes, you could probably catch this gig half a dozen times and still not spot everything (and many of this crowd, teetering on the brink of delirium ever since the Madonna pop-up store opened in the adjoining mall this morning, seem set to do just that).
And for once, Madonna – whose relentless commitment to the present and future of her music had always previously prevented her from playing the fantasy setlist her catalog seemed to be crying out for – is here to celebrate her four decades at the top with almost every song a fan – whether casual or obsessive – could dream of.
Furthermore, tonight she lays claim not just to her own history, but also to her influence on music and the wider world over the last 40 years. Not for nothing did the set start with “Nothing Really Matters” and its refrain of, “It all comes back to me”.
There are nods to her activism – including a passionate plea for peace between Israel and Palestine and tributes to those we have lost to AIDS – and her trailblazing, via a montage of negative news headlines and video footage from across her career. It’s a timely reminder that, in an age where anyone with a million streams that gets a new haircut can be hailed as “iconic,” Madonna really has achieved that status, over and over.
There are snippets of other people’s music throughout – a snatch of Sam Smith’s “Unholy” here or Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” there, plus a surprisingly poignant acoustic cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”. Some of her children make on-stage cameos, and even her ex-husbands appear briefly on screen. There are tributes to Sinead O’Connor and, more controversially, Michael Jackson, via a dubious mash-up of “Billie Jean” with “Like a Virgin”.
But mostly, it’s about Madonna and her songs. Taylor Swift has undoubtedly crystalized the concept of musical ‘eras’ in the public consciousness, but Madonna is no slouch when it comes to giving each phase of her career a distinct look and sound.
And tonight, she flits seamlessly between different stages of her life, sometimes via a costume change, sometimes by climbing into an illuminated portal that sees her fly over the crowd on her way to another time and place.
From the joyous early ‘80s dance-pop of “Get Into the Groove” and “Holiday”; to big ballads such as “Live to Tell” and “Bad Girl”; to the raunch of “Erotica” (in which Madge gets to saucily, um, interact with her younger self via a lookalike in the iconic “Blonde Ambition” get-up) and “Justify My Love”; to the sheer, irresistible pizazz of “Vogue,” “Don’t Tell Me,” “La Isla Bonita,” “Ray of Light,” “Hung Up,” “Like a Prayer” and so many others; this show is proof that there is no such thing as too much Madonna.
True, the lack of a live band occasionally makes things lack a little punch (most notably on a glitchy “Die Another Day”). But overall, tonight shows that while – just like 40 years ago – Madonna still doesn’t know how to quit, boy has she learned how to come back.
“It’s been a crazy year,” she says, during a rare pause for breath. “I didn’t think I was going to make it and neither did my doctors.”
But thankfully, she did and, by the end, all the different iterations of Madonna from across the decades are on stage, the lookalikes hugging each other with delight during “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” while the real deal stays center stage and supremely focused.
Still dancing, still singing, still the one and only Madonna.

It was my 15th Bryan Adams show, all here in Lisbon. My first Bryan Adams show was in December 13, 1991 in Estádio José Alvalade.
Bryan Adams was scheduled to start at 21:00.
For this show I bought the ticket on Thursday, 2021/October/14 in FNAC, Connect Saldanha, Lisbon, Portugal. "Plateia em Pé".
After almost 2 years of this crazy Pandemic we just got a live show here in Lisbon. This concert was like a test for us. We had to show a vaccine prove or a negative test. I show them both. Bryan Adams was in Gondomar on the day before. And then was this Lisbon show in Altice Arena. More then 16000 people were there.
I arrived at Altice Arena at 6 am. Was a sunny and cold day. Was with my friends during the day. We got inside around 7 pm and I run to the front row, stayed in front of Keith Scott.
Finally was time for Bryan Adams. He started at 21:27 and played 133 minutes. Played a set of 27 songs.

When a group of Chicagoans wanted to unify the city with a city-wide sing-along from their window as a way of showing solidarity while Illinois is in a “stay at home” order due to the coronavirus outbreak, Bon Jovi's “Livin’ on a Prayer” was the song they chose.
“The song has this ability to make people come together,” said Jenni Spinner, an organizer of the sing-along.
Dozens of videos of the sing-along were posted. Chicago became intimately familiar with the story of Tommy and Gina, a hardscrabble couple with little but a prayer to hold them forth.
In the hours before the sing-along, two related events happened. Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi expressed support for the sing-along and Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan revealed that he had tested positive for the coronavirus, COVID-19.
Bon Jovi has become the rock 'n' roll epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. No band has stirred more empathy, articulated the feelings of uncertainty, and comforted fans with reassurance than the Jersey rockers in the first weeks of the outbreak.

“These are trying times we're going through, uncharted territory, the great unknown,” said Jon Bon Jovi on a Sunday, March 22, social media posting. “But one thing is for sure, we're going to make it through.”
Bon Jovi is the right band for the moment, fans say.
“It’s because they've always been there,” said fan Lori Franchini O'Leary, 47, of East Brunswick. “They never left no matter what year it is. They’ve always had some type of a song, some type of an album or tour for a connection with the fans. They never really left.”
The first member of the band to be affected by the outbreak was Bryan, who had his new musical, “Diana,” postponed March 12 on Broadway, as were all Broadway shows.
Then, Jon Bon Jovi and sons Jesse Bongiovi and Jake Bongiovi were shown group dancing to Doja Cat's “Say So” on the banks of the Navesink River at his home in Middletown in a March 14 video called “Quarantine Choreography” posted to the Hampton Water TikTok account and shared on a Hampton Water Instagram story.
Hampton Water is the name of the rosé sold by Jon Bon Jovi, Jesse Bongiovi and French winemaker Gérard Bertrand. The video was a fun diversion, but it certainly didn't convey the gravity of what was to come.
“I was watching that, and I was, 'What did I just watch?' " said Franchini O'Leary.
The next post, on Thursday, March 19, had a very different tone. A picture of Jon Bon Jovi, in short sleeves, washing dishes at the Soul Kitchen community restaurant in Red Bank, which he founded with his wife Dorothea Bongiovi. The Soul Kitchen restaurant is now closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, but takeout is still available for those who need it.
“If you can't do what you do ... do what you can,” commented Bon Jovi on the post.
The picture went viral.
“I thought it was very humbling,” Franchini O'Leary said. “He doesn’t just say it, he’s really actually doing it. He's totally in the present all the time. He doesn’t have people or a crew, he’s actually involved.”
The rocker has built a long resume of philanthropic and political endeavors. He served on President Obama's White House Council for Community Solutions and worked with Gov. Chris Christie on superstorm Sandy relief for Jersey, including his hometown of Sayreville. His JBJ Soul Foundation teamed with Help USA to build 51 units of affordable housing in Newark in 2008. Fifteen of the units were dedicated solely for HIV/AIDS patients.
He and Dorothea Bongiovi recently opened a Soul Kitchen on the campus of Rutgers-Newark University. It's the third Soul Kitchen location, in addition to Red Bank and Toms River. Diners pay what they can.
“Jon has been very active as a philanthropist for many, many years, and I think people know that and certainly his fans know it,” said Tony Pallagrosi, a former member of the Asbury Jukes and a Jersey Shore-based music promoter. “I think it’s a natural for him to be out in front in a situation like this. It doesn‘t surprise me.”
The appeal of Bon Jovi in this moment is partly due to the fact that Jon Bon Jovi has been a good citizen, Spinner said.
“In the Me Too era, every other day we’re finding out about somebody we’ve looked up to forever who ends up being a racist, or a Trump supporter, or a rapist or there's something about him that turns you off,” Spinner said.
“Jon Bon Jovi’s been married forever. He’s putting his money where other people's mouths are and he’s been doing good stuff and he’s been doing it for while. Not only is he not a Me Too disappointment, he’s actually doing really good stuff.”
Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan, who's also a Tony Award-winning Broadway composer, are imparting positive messages during the outbreak.
“I’ve been sick for a week and feeling better each day,” Bryan said on Saturday, March 21. His wife, Lexi Quaas, also has it. “Please don’t be afraid!!! It’s the flu not the plague. I’ve have been quarantined for a week and will for another week. And when I feel better I’ll get tested again to make sure I’m free of this nasty virus. Please help out each other. This will be over soon... with the help of every American!!”
Bon Jovi asked fans for help writing a verse of a new song, “Do What You Can,” that was partially premiered on the evening of Sunday, March 22, on Bon Jovi's social media sites. Fans were asked to video themselves singing their verse, then post it to the Bon Jovi social media sites with the #DoWhatYouCan hashtag.
“Here's my idea. We write this one together. I'm going to give you the chorus. I'm going to give you the first verse. I'm going to play the second verse, but you tell me your story,” Bon Jovi said. “Tell me what you're going through. Tell me how you're feeling. Tell me if you're hurting. Talk about that high school graduation that's going to be canceled, talk about that prom you just might not have, talk about that baby coming there's nothing you can do about that. Talk about the paycheck that you're losing. Talk about being afraid, looking out your window and wondering what to make about all of this.
“Just remember, we're going to get through it.”
Jon Bon Jovi also appears in a video for First Lady Tammy Murphy's New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund that will assist state organizations in getting resources to vulnerable communities across the state. Bruce Springsteen, Jon Stewart, Danny DeVito, Whoopi Goldberg and Charlie Puth are also in the video, which was released on the morning on Tuesday, March 24.
“I think it's wonderful that Johnny is reaching out to lift people,” said Peter Mantas, who grew up with Jon Bon Jovi in Sayreville and spent many years working with the band. “We got each other, and that's a lot!”
Bon Jovi is scheduled to release the new album, “2020,” on May 15. The band has announced that a U.S. “Bon Jovi 2020 Tour” is scheduled to play the Prudential Center in Newark on July 14. The tour, which begins June 10 in Tacoma, Washington, also includes two shows, July 27 and 28, at Madison Square Garden, which will close the 18-date trip.
The new album promises to be more about topical subjects, the band has said.
“They have families, kids who are in their 20s, and they’re looking at what’s around them,” Franchini O'Leary said. “They're writing about what's currently around them, and it’s soldiers, it’s homelessness, it’s building homes. It's people who are less fortunate and they writing about in their songs.”

“I'm just warming up getting ready to sing along with you. In these trying times, I am with you with all of my heart and my soul,” said Bon Jovi on Instagram prior to the Chicago sing-along. “Sing it out, baby. We're all going to come through this together.”

Patient zero has been around for a while. She is breathless, severely dehydrated, her lungs are compromised, her immunity is compromised, she has a raging high fever with occasional chills. She is 4.5 billion years old and she lived in relative health for 99% of that time. Then this really ghastly virus called the agricultural, and then the industrialised human came along, and she’s been sick pretty ever since.
She, unlike us, self-heals. Over her very long life, she has created life, destroyed it and changed it in order to do only one thing – survive. Her self-healing now, has shut us down. All our arrogance of technological advancement, hyper-capitalism, space travel – and we may as well be hunter-gatherers living in a cave facing down a pride of hungry lions with no weapons, in the face of Covid-19.
A zoonotic disease, it’s not the first and certainly will not be the last. From rabies, to anthrax, to HIV/AIDS, the bubonic plague, the various coronaviruses like Sars, Mers and so on, all zoonotic and all due to our relentless exploitation of the planet and her resources.
While it is not yet clear exactly from which animal this Covid-19 virus originated, it is absolutely fact that it is from a wild animal, poached and trapped against its will, kept and consumed in unhygienic conditions. The original virus could have started in a bat and perhaps came to us through the pangolin, the most trafficked animal on earth. The illegal wildlife trade is worth multiple billions of dollars and scant attention and resources have been allocated to fight it. Poaching has pushed tens of thousands of species to the brink while sanctioned legal development is pushing habitats to the brink. This dangerous combination of both habitat and species loss is exacerbating climate change which in turn is causing damage to our ability to survive as a species.
Biodiversity, or the variety of species in a living ecosystem, is the immune system of the planet. Take the human body. Our bodies have more bacteria than human cells. These microorganisms help keep us alive and healthy. For the human body, the gut or the stomach plus intestines are the most crucial part of our immune system. The greater the biodiversity – or different types of good bacteria in our guts – the better our health and immune response. If an external agent attacks, it’s the immune system that fights it off. Similarly, for planet Earth, it’s her biodiversity that is the immune system. When we, with our exploitative activities, cause issues like climate change, she can cope if her biodiversity stays intact. But we are riddling her precious immune system with holes which adds to the growing ravages of climate change.
This collapse is also forcing people and the wild into closer proximity and forcing poor communities who are hit hardest to turn to poaching and bushmeat and wet markets to supplement their food requirements. It’s easy to point fingers at poor African communities over AIDS and Ebola, and at the Chinese over wet markets and illegal wildlife trade, but unless we acknowledge we are all culpable in this mess, we are in big trouble.
This virus has already forced social isolation on us. We are unable to hug our parents, kiss our grandparents, hold our children. Basic everyday needs that keep us human, that keep us together as a community. There are people dying without being held by their loved ones at the very end. If there are real scars leftover from Covid-19, it would be this. That someone we loved died without a last loving human touch from the person who mattered the most to them.
Biodiversity also is a system of checks and balances. If there are certain species that are prey, there are certain that are predators. If there are species that are parasites, there are also species that feed on them. As biodiversity dwindles, these checks and balances go haywire. Let’s say there’s a herd of deer in the wild. Several predators keep the deer from multiplying too fast and devouring the habitat. The deer also stay alert, fast, fit because of all the running and alertness required to evade the predators. The predators also target the weak, the slow, the sick, keeping the deer population healthy. Without them, the deer will grow in number, out-eat their survivability and get sick.
Sounds familiar? What we do when we get hold of animals is crowd them up, keep them in unhygienic conditions, feed them the wrong foods and sometimes artificially keep them healthy with antibiotics. This has led to a cascade of diseases in humans, adds to making us antibiotic-resistant and then throws up a deadly zoonotic which brings us to our knees.
As omnivores, we pretty much eat anything. While zoonotic diseases come from eating meat raised or housed in unhygienic conditions, it’s not meat per se that’s the problem. It’s factory-farmed meat and illegal wild meat. Both plant-based agriculture and meat farms in the industrialised age cause extensive habitat damage leading to biodiversity loss.
The flip side to Covid-19 is firstly the understanding that we are not invincible and are just another species on this planet. That the world is round and a crisis in one place can become a crisis in every place. That we are only as strong as our most vulnerable people, and systems put in place to ruthlessly maximise profit while minimising humanity will always lead to disaster. Meanwhile, between social distancing, lack of travel and drop in manufacturing and consumption, emissions have dropped, China has seen a blue sky after years, serious concerns are being raised around the wildlife trade and patient zero is feeling better.
If we choose to live on this planet like a breeding prey species that devours like a predator while functioning like a parasite, we will force our host to react more virulently. Hers is an ancient biological intelligence that has powered life for four billion years, It’s honed, it’s extensive and it is a cold intelligence that will do what it takes to survive. As we race to find a vaccine to help us survive viruses, so is she, patient zero, looking for solutions.
If we choose to find the best parts of ourselves, where in lockdown an Italian neighbourhood sang to one another, where young people are going door to door asking older people if they need help in running errands, where the Chinese flew out a whole plane full of experts and helpers and ventilators to Italy, where we learn to live with greater compassion for each other and the living planet, we can hope to cope with and perhaps even thrive in the coming decades.
As the Chinese wrote on their help package, “we are all waves in the same ocean”. DM

That the world is round and a crisis in one place can become a crisis in every place. That we are only as strong as our most vulnerable people, and systems put in place to ruthlessly maximise profit while minimising humanity will always lead to disaster.

For this show I bought the ticket on Saturday, 2019/May/25 in FNAC, Chiado, Lisbon, Portugal. Got "Balcão Central Par H76".
Before "Madonna" in Coliseu dos Recreios, played Madame X Fado Band, they started at 21:47 and played 28 minutes.
Members: Gaspar Varela (guitar), Miroca Paris (percussion and guitar), Carlos Mil-Homens (percussion) and Jessica Pina (trumpet and background vocalist) were invited by Madonna to play an instrumental opening set which included Madonna covers: "Secret", "Don't Tell Me", "Like a Virgin" and "Who's That Girl". Between the Madonna songs they played some Fado related sounds.
Finally was time for Madonna. She started at 22:42 and played 148 minutes. Played a set of 21 songs.

Early in the three-hour tribute Linkin Park paid to late lead singer Chester Bennington, Friday night, October 27 at the Hollywood Bowl, the band showed a video clip that made the rounds recently. Part of the group’s effort to showcase the lighter, fun side of Bennington, the clip saw him singing a song called “Lollipops And Unicorns,” an absurd, if catchy little ditty.
After the clip LP producer/emcee Mike Shinoda quipped, “Did you really just sing along to a You Tube clip? If that’s the case you don’t even need us here tonight.” Yes, they did sing along to the clip, as they did to everything during the epic show. And the 18,000 fans needed the band there as much the band needed the fans there.
Back in 2004, I received a call from a publicist explaining that Linkin Park were on the road in support of their second album, Meteora, and they had been traveling with a great rock photographer Greg Watermann. It was near the end of the tour that they realized they might have a coffee table book, but they needed someone to write the copy to go with the photos. Would I be interested?
Other than the fact the band’s debut, Hybrid Theory, had been a monster success I really did not know much about them. But they were, at the time, the biggest-selling rock band in the world and to be asked was a tremendous honor. So I said I was interested, I got the gig to my surprise, and two days later I was on a plane to somewhere in Florida to meet them for the end of the tour.
Because they wanted to tell the true story of the band and in particular Meteora, the album that followed Hybrid Theory, I was given unparalleled access, including even sleeping on their tour bus.
One of the things I was also given was a bag of fan art and letters. This was intended to show me the relationship between the band, who did meet and greets after every show, and their diehard fans. Thirteen years later, Shinoda mentioned that connection numerous times at the Hollywood Bowl, saying that in the trying times since Bennington’s shocking suicide this past July the fans had lifted them up time and again.
That connection is deep and profound. Reading through the art and letters at the time I saw fans who said time and again LP had saved their lives or helped them through dark times. After the massive commercial breakthrough of Hybrid Theory, a rap/rock record, I had numerous music industry friends ask me if I really liked Linkin Park. The answer was yes and I cited the relationship they had with their fans as proof the band was much more than the novelty of rap/rock detractors wanted to label them.
So this Hollywood Bowl tribute to Chester Bennington was necessary for both fans and band. The fans needed the chance to celebrate a musical hero and the band needed to see if they could get back on stage as a five-piece and to say goodbye through music.
The night promised to be intense and emotional, which it was. At one point Shinoda called it a roller coaster of emotions and added no one was sure what would come next. It proved true throughout the incredibly powerful 31-song set.
When a mike was placed under the spotlight during the front of “Numb” at the beginning of the show and the 18,000 strong sang the entire song it was spine-tingling, moving and heartbreaking, words that came up again and again.
I considered Bennington a friend and as such I was dreading this show for the emotional toll. I spoke to another friend after the show who had also worked with LP and she used the words, “Angry, sad and joyous.” We both concurred that during the epic singalong of “In The End,” which Shinoda introduced by saying, “You are our favorite guests,” to the crowd, it was impossible to get through singing the song without sobbing.
In spite of the tremendous heaviness of the occasion, Linkin Park accomplished wondrous things in making this an often joyous celebration. The presence of artists like Blink-182, Alanis Morissette, Bush’s Gavin Rossdale, Machine Gun Kelly, Steve Aoki, Avenged Sevenfold, members of System Of A Down and more, as well as video tributes from Paul McCartney and Metallica, among others, added an incredible amount of star power and lifted the crowd every time.
But Shinoda was not wrong in calling the crowd their favorite guests. This show was about the bond between Linkin Park and their fans, all of whom were mourning the loss of someone they considered a family member, whether they knew him or not.
After Bennington’s death I read countless comments from people who said they’d never felt this way over the death of a celebrity. I read those comments in part to help me understand my grief. I knew Bennington, when we saw each other we were friends, we would talk, catch up, point out how good it was to see each other. But he wasn’t an everyday presence in my life so I wasn’t sure why the pain was so strong.
I’m still not, but I do know this show was something I needed as both a fan and a friend. And it was something that was necessary for the LP community. At the end of the night Bennington’s widow Talinda came out and spoke about how happy Chester would have been to see everybody brought together like this and lifting each other up.
She referenced, as Shinoda did numerous times as well, the hashtag that had emerged, “Make Chester Proud.” And that this night would have done so. Both Linkin Park and their fans have every right to be proud of what they did tonight. It wasn’t about a night of great music, though there were countless highlights and memorable moments, especially a devastating new song, “Looking For An Answer,” Shinoda played.
They billed this night as a celebration of Bennington’s life. But it was clearly as much about figuring out how to go on in the face of tragedy and coming to grips with the fact there will never be answers. Tonight, more than 18,000 people who loved Chester Bennington gathered to celebrate his life and legacy. It wasn’t a perfect night. One song the band flubbed the beginning and Shinoda said, “F**k that, we’re starting over. Chester wouldn’t take that s**t.” But it was a night of beauty, of power, of love, of incredible sorrow and of joy. So yeah, Linkin Park definitely made both Chester and their fans proud.

William "Bill" Paxton (May 17, 1955 – February 25, 2017) was an American actor and director. The films in which he appeared include The Terminator (1984), Weird Science (1985), Aliens (1986), Predator 2 (1990), True Lies (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), and Titanic (1997). Paxton also starred in the HBO series Big Love (2006–2011) and was nominated for an Emmy Award for the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys (2012).
Early life
Paxton was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Mary Lou (née Gray) and John Lane Paxton. His father was a businessman, lumber wholesaler, museum executive, and occasional actor. His mother was Roman Catholic, and he and his siblings were raised in her faith. Paxton was in the crowd when President John F. Kennedy emerged from the Hotel Texas on the morning of his assassination on November 22, 1963. Photographs of an 8-year-old Paxton being lifted above the crowd are on display at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, Texas.
Career
Among Paxton's earliest roles were a minor role as a punk thug in The Terminator (1984), a supporting role as the lead protagonist's bullying older brother Chet in John Hughes' Weird Science (1985), and Private Hudson in Aliens (1986).
He directed several short films, including the music video for Barnes & Barnes' novelty song "Fish Heads", which aired during Saturday Night Live's low-rated 1980–1981 season. He was cast in a music video for the 1982 Pat Benatar song "Shadows of the Night", in which he appeared as a Nazi radio officer.
Music career
In 1982, Paxton and his friend Andrew Todd Rosenthal formed a new wave musical duo called Martini Ranch. The duo released its only full length album, Holy Cow, in 1988 on Sire Records. The album was produced by Devo member Bob Casale and featured guest appearances by other members of that band. The music video for the band's single "Reach" was directed by James Cameron.
1990s
Paxton worked with director James Cameron on True Lies (1994) and Titanic (1997), the latter of which was the highest-grossing film of all time at its release. In his other roles, Paxton played Morgan Earp in Tombstone (1993), Fred Haise in Apollo 13 (1995), the lead in Twister (1996), and lead roles in dark dramas such as One False Move (1992) and A Simple Plan (1998).
2000s—2010s
He directed the feature films Frailty (2001), in which he starred, and The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005). Four years after appearing in Titanic, he joined Cameron on an expedition to the actual Titanic. A film about this trip, Ghosts of the Abyss, was released in 2003. He also appeared in the music video for Limp Bizkit's 2003 song "Eat You Alive" as a sheriff.
Paxton's highest profile television performances received much positive attention, including his lead role in HBO's Big Love (2006–2011), for which Paxton received three Golden Globe Award nominations. Paxton also received good reviews for his performance in the History Channel's miniseries Hatfields & McCoys (2012), for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award, alongside co-star Kevin Costner.
In 2014, he played the role of the villainous John Garrett in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. , and a supporting role in Edge of Tomorrow (2014). He starred alongside Jon Bernthal, Rose McGowan, and John Malkovich as a playable character in the 2014 video game Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (downloadable "Exo Zombies" mode). In February 2016, Paxton was cast as Detective Frank Roarke for Training Day, a crime-thriller television series set 15 years after the events of the eponymous 2001 movie; it premiered a year later.
Personal life
Paxton was married from 1979 to 1980 to Kelly Rowan. In 1987, he married Louise Newbury; together, they had two children, James and Lydia.
Death
On February 25, 2017, Paxton died at age 61 from complications following heart surgery. A representative for the family released the following statement to the press on February 26:
It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.
